Yeah, self-employment tax is a HUGE shock if you’re not prepared for it. My husband was self-employed before law school so I had a heads up going in to my own self-employment. But I know lots of people who had a really rude awakening when tax time rolled around after their first full year of self-employment! Ugh, sympathy.
I had a similar experience for my taxes as well since I was W-2 and had self employment income last year. It gets better and I believe in us!
