Coming from spending my 20s in NY around a lot of social climbers and career driven friends it’s been really jarring to see how I’m changing mindsets and they’re still fully chasing after this. It is the most depressing thing to realize your utility can impact your friendships!

Work is definitely the context in which social capitalism shows up for me, too--it's inevitable when we're peppered with adages like "it's not what you know; it's who you know" and "your network is your net worth."
